The Algerian elections ran mostly smoothly on Nov. 23, according to Minister of the Interior and Communities Nourredine Bedoui.

Many polling stations saw a one-hour increase in polling time, as a way to facilitate the Algerian citizens to vote in these important elections.

The one-hour extension was provided for in Article 30 of the Organic Law on the Electoral System.

There were over 12,000 voting centers open with more than 55,000 polling stations throughout Algeria. Voting was attended by 33.26 percent for APW and 34.46 percent for APC, more than the 2012 elections.

There were about 165,000 candidates running for 50 political parties, four alliances and independent groups were also running for APC elections. Over 16,000 candidates applied for membership to the APW.

Voting operations were carried out for 72 hours in hard-to-get-to areas in the southern part of Algeria.
