The Tripoli government signed a contract to build a 740-megawatt, gas-fueled power station in Tobruk.

The agreement was signed by the chairman of the state electricity company GECOL, Abdul Majeed Hamza; the CEO of Greek engineering firm METKA, Evangelos Mytilineos; and officials from General Electric.

The meeting was held with Presidency Council foreign minister, Mohamed Siala; Nuri Dorman, representing the Tobruk municipal council; Greek foreign ministry secretary for international relations Giorgos Tsipras; and other officials from the Libyan and Greek governments.

This agreement came following some electricity issues in the recent years and the new plans have been discussed for a long period. METKA made the announcement in January that the new generation station would be handled by them, but it was not until the meeting in Tobruk that the final details were discussed.
