SONATRACH: Algeria to achieve sustainable development through energy transition program

Sonatrach recently issued the following announcement.

The Minister of Energy, Mohamed Arkab, said on Wednesday in Algiers that the Energy Transition Program provided for in the Government’s Action Plan will allow Algeria to achieve sustainable development.

In a press statement on the sidelines of an Information Day on the safety and security of radioactive sources and associated equipment, organized by the French Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA), Mr. Arkab clarified that “the sector action plan will have clear objectives in terms of energy transition in all its forms with the consolidation of national achievements in terms of production of hydrocarbons (gas and oil), resources that allow our country to improve its foreign exchange earnings and achieve sustainable development. “

The Minister has, in this context, reported the presentation in the coming days of the Government Action Plan which “will concretize the Program of the President of the Republic in all areas, especially in energy with the intensification of the use of renewable energies ”.

Regarding the contribution of Algerian experts, established in Algeria or abroad, Mr. Arkab said that on the instruction of the President of the Republic, the Ministry of Energy has established contacts with several experts in all fields energy, including atomic energy.

For this purpose, he specified that the consultation of these experts will allow to master the new technologies used in the fields of energy and to elaborate a roadmap to adopt for the development of the sector, indicating that the first meeting with a Algerian expert is scheduled next Thursday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy.

With regard to the exploitation of shale gas, the Minister indicated that “the explanation given by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune on this subject (shale gas) was clear and we are careful to apply the President’s Program ”.

Mentioning this subject during the interview granted to the media last week, the President of the Republic said that the experiences related to the exploitation of this gas will be evaluated “calmly”, by involving specialists.

All the fringes of the people should know that it is a buried wealth that must be exploited, had stressed the President of the Republic.

“Algeria is considered to be the second or third in the world shale gas reserves. We do not export agricultural or industrial products… the door is open to the exploitation of this gas and we will open the debate with influential circles ”(APS).
