AppMahal has been offering Arabic-language communication tools to users across North Africa and other parts of the globe for about a year now — and experiencing great results.

Too often, mass communications tools are only made in “default languages” – some of the world’s most common international languages, like English, French and Mandarin. By challenging these trends and creating personalized, localized niche tools, companies like AppMahal are empowering individual users and creating new spaces in the digital communications industry.

Back in September, Maghreb News Wire reported on the Sila social app released by AppMahal this year, and how it’s getting a lot of use around the Arab world, including in countries like Tunisia and Algeria.

Sila is available in the Google store and has enjoyed good ratings there.

Now, AppMahal marketing manager Mona Haddad says a new feature is earning Sila more visibility and interest.

“We have released a new feature recently, which is the public chat groups,” Haddad told Maghreb News Wire on  Oct. 31.

The public chat group functionality, she said, helps users to weigh in on trending topics in any online community.

“It’s increased the number of installs,” Haddad said. “We have reached 2 million installs; Sila is booming.”

By using public and private groups, she said, users can customize their experience and choose whether or not to interact with dozens of users, or branch off into a more private discussion.

“You add your favorite people and start chatting,” Haddad said of private room functionality — she said it’s a great way for users to keep in touch with each other or just hang out.

Screenshots of the app show how Arabic language speakers can text or tag each other or interact in other ways. It’s all part of making the digital world broader and more accessible to everyone, anywhere in the world.
