More than 313,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled violent acts against them which have taken place in the Rakhine state of Myanmar.
The refugees have fled to Bangladesh, beginning at the end of August. The Rohingya group is a minority of about 1 million people and they have been discriminated against for years, due to the fact that they are Muslim in a mostly Buddhist nation.
Making matters worse, a group called the Rohinga Liberation Army in Arakan began attacks against police stations in the Rakhine state, causing the army to react with military attacks against the Muslim minority group.
Speaking on behalf of the Rohingya Muslims was the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Raad al-Hussein, who stated that the actions were against the “principles of international law.”
