Morocco recently placed as a top country for immigrants in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Countries survey series.

The Moroccan American Center for Policy (MACP) announced that Morocco topped North Africa and was second on the continent for the magazine’s “Best Countries for Immigrants” list.

According to MACP, U.S. News & World Report surveyed over 21,000 people from around the world and assessed 80 countries to use for the ranking. The immigration aspect of the survey ranked countries on economic stability, job market, income equality and “is a place I would live.”

“Morocco has been a leader on the issue of migration for many years,” former U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Edward Gabriel in the MACP’s statement.  “King Mohammed VI long ago recognized that a welcoming, humanitarian approach offers the best solution. Challenges remain, of course, but Morocco has made great progress in integrating immigrants into its society.”

Morocco was the first Arab country to adopt a “liberalized” immigration policy to protect migrants and those seeking asylum. The country issued nearly 25,000 migrants with residency papers in 2014 and two years later launched phase two of the program, according to MACP.

MACP is a nonprofit organization that educates and informs about Morocco’s political and social developments.
