Marrone Bio Innovations Inc. is beginning shipment of its first product to Africa.

Reysana, a fungicide, will be sent to Morocco for use on tomatoes, grapes and cucurbits.

“Biologically based Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is becoming a necessity for agricultural exporters in Morocco and other regions around the world,” Marrone Bio Innovation CEO Pam Marrone said.

Tomatoes are the largest of vegetable crops in Morocco, making Reysana the perfect type of crop protection to be using in-country. Results from farmers using biologicals for crop protection are readily available and an added benefit is that they are oftentimes safer than synthetic materials which are used for pest-repellent.

“We look forward to our continued expansion into Africa and other areas of the world with a wide range of unmet pest and disease challenges,” Marrone said.

Morocco and the U.S. have a free trade agreement of which agriculture makes up about 15 percent of the gross domestic product. Morocco exports $2.4 billion in agricultural trade, 60 percent of which are to the European Union and 27 percent which are to the U.S.
