Following his recent visit to public multimedia broadcasting headquarters, Algeria’s communication minister Jamal Kaouan pronounced the Algerian Broadcasting and Broadcasting Corp.’s operations as critical to evolving the nation’s telecommunications capacities via television and radio.

Kaouan met with Shawki Sahnini, director of the nation’s general organization for television and radio broadcasting, toured the broadcasting facilities and expressed support for its growth.

The officials focused on the institution’s continuing work to maintain administrative standards, oversee human resource management and continue financial solvency, all criteria for successful performance of the organization’s tasks and fulfillment of expectations both for the public and for private media enterprises.

Kaouan encouraged Sahnini and his colleagues to continue their efforts; officials said he conveyed willingness to support broadcast service users “by various means necessary to be able to raise the ‘concession bet’” in the context of current circumstances.

“The technological role of the public institution for television and radio broadcasting is strategic for the sector,” according to a ministry statement.

The Algerian state broadcasting operation, ENTV, comprises five TV channels operating nationally or through satellite and Algerian Radio. Additionally, Algerian television became partially democratized in 1989 under a new constitution.
