Hundreds of homes in the three Algiers districts of Al-Suhba, Suwaidaniyah and Ain Al-Malihah — 944, to be exact — were recently officially slated to change hands, providing housing relief to families from 13 different Algerian jurisdictions.
Gov. Abdelkader Zoukh officiated at a special ceremony marking the property transfer, citing that re-housing has been in effect since June 2014, involving 72,000 families to date total.
Zoukh said that of the 42,000 individual housing units assigned, eight are associated with the public sector; and due to previous delays in some of the building, that regular inspections would be implemented going forward to ensure occupancy readiness, possibly with the establishment of a committee appointed to oversee unit completion.
The program also involved 56 different real estate developers.
Public records indicate that approximately 21,000 units are completely finished — including 11,000 already handed over to new occupants — comprising roughly half of the total number of homes planned to be available. Documents also revealed that 18,000 units are near completion and 3,000 more are expected to begin soon.
Families selected to be beneficiaries of this program previously resided in Zeralda, Abyar, Suwaidaniya, Rahmaniya, Mahalima, Ben Aknoun, Qubba, Bab El-Wad, Wadi Qureish, Central Algeria and Bouzria.
