French President Emmanuel Makron is set to visit Algeria on Dec. 6, his first visit since taking office.
On Sunday, he signed three economic cooperation agreements between the two countries in Algiers during the fourth session of the Algerian-French Mixed Economic Commission (COMEFA).
The session was described as “positive” and it resulted in a “detailed assessment” of the France and Algeria’s various areas of cooperation. Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel said, “This current session of Comiva is positive on more than one level, which has led to important discussions and clear directions to further deepen the economic partnership between the two countries.”
Jean-Yves Laudrian, the French minister in charge of Europe and foreign affairs, described it as “very positive,” and emphasized the “important steps” in economic cooperation between Algeria and France.
This session will be followed by a meeting of the high-level joint government committee headed by the first two ministers on Dec. 7 in Paris.
