Startling new statistics from Casablanca show an alarming increase in bus attacks in the North African city.

According to official government estimates released Wednesday, more than 10,000 attacks against buses and their drivers and passengers have occurred since 2014, with each year posting worse numbers than preceding year.

According to the city’s Commissioner of Urban Transport Management, 2,480 cases were seen in 2014, whereas the total for 2015 was 3,165and 5,265 cases were reported in 2016. That’s a 66 percent increase between 2015 and 2016, the report said.

Although the release didn’t state the source of the attacks or whether the same terrorist organization was behind them, officials did make clear that the human toll was dire. Transportation workers injured in the attacks lost 15,000 days of work, costing the city 22 million dirhams, the release said.
