A local armed group in Tripoli threatened to cut off the city’s water supply from a man-made river if a detained green militiaman was not released from prison.

The group is known to have been loyal forces to former dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

The man-made river water wells are located in the south section of Tripoli. In a Facebook video, brother of Al-Mabrouk Ehnish, threatened to cut all water and shut down oil and gas fields if his brother was not released within 72 hours.

“If he was not released, we will burn down the man-made river water system, close Tripoli-Sabha road and gas pipelines,” he said from inside a control room, according to reports from The Libya Observer.

He later threatened murder if his capturing continues past the three-day window.

Al-Mabrouk Ehnish is the head of the “Popular Front for Liberation of Libya.”
