AfDB takes part in World Statistics Congress

The African Development Bank took part in the 61th World Statistics Congress in Marrakech, Morocco from July 16-21 during which over 2,500 statisticians came together to discuss research and practices of statistics.

The AfDB funded 40 statisticians from its member countries, who presented or were resources or panelists at the event.

The AfDB presented on panel discussions about the African Information Highway, SDMX in making data reporting more modernized in Africa, the International Comparison Program, Civil Registration and Labor Statistics and more.

“At the exhibition booth, our team will present and explain all tools that the Bank provides to African countries under the program,” Lawson Emessan Lawson, officer in charge of the Statistical Capacity Building Division with the AfDB, said.

The African Information Highway, which was launched in 2012, was built with the intention of being a statistical capacity building program for member countries of the bank. The bank installed Open Data Platforms that are in 54 African countries, while 16 regional and sub-regional organizations have come from the Highway.

The Highway was voted to be one of the most innovative data initiatives worldwide by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century.
