Sonatrach issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.
The National Hydrocarbons Company SONATRACH and the Italian energy group Eni signed Thursday in Algiers, an agreement strengthening the partnership in the Berkine basin, under the aegis of the new legal and regulatory framework governing hydrocarbon activities, said SONATRACH in a press release.
“A Memorandum of Understanding, aimed at developing a roadmap setting out the necessary steps for the possible conclusion of one or more hydrocarbon contracts in the Berkine basin, under the aegis of of the new legal and regulatory system governing hydrocarbon activities, was signed today (Thursday) between SONATRACH and Eni ”, the same source specified.
This document was initialed by the CEO of SONATRACH Toufik Hakkar and that of the Eni group, Claudio Descalzi during a working meeting held Thursday in Algiers between the two officials.
Held as part of the development and monitoring of partnership opportunities between the two energy groups, several points of common interest were discussed during this meeting, namely: training in the Oil & Gas professions, research and development , new energies, energy transition as well as environmental protection, adds the press release.
On this occasion, the two officials reaffirmed their “commitment to the implementation of an ambitious program to strengthen exploration and development activities in this area (Berkine basin), through the optimization of existing infrastructure ”.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Hakkar declared: “our relations with Eni, traditionally very close, can only be strengthened through the signing of this agreement as well as the deployment of several axes, in particular, training and research & development ”.
For his part, the CEO of the Italian energy group highlighted the excellence of the multidimensional partnership relations linking Eni to SONATRACH.
In this context, he declared that the signing of this memorandum of understanding “attests to the commitment made by Eni and SONATRACH to strengthen their partnership in Algeria, in accordance with a common strategy for accelerated development of projects”.
On the sidelines of this meeting, the two managers wished to show their gratitude and gratitude to the teams of the National Company of Large Petroleum Works (ENGTP) for the achievement, in record time not exceeding 12 months, of a pipeline connecting BRN to MLE over a length of 180 km.
“This reward consolidates the undeniable contribution of the role of Algerian companies in the hydrocarbon industry in Algeria”, the press release concluded. (APS)
