SKIKDA- The CEO of the national hydrocarbons company SONATRACH, Toufik Hakkar, made a working and inspection visit to the Skikda oil complex on Tuesday during which he inquired about the progress of the projects of infrastructure development and inaugurated the relaunch of LNG production, which had been shut down since last December.
Accompanied by a delegation made up of company executives, Mr. Hakkar began his visit by inspecting the facilities of the natural gas liquefaction complex GL1K), which resumed production on July 16 after a general shutdown due to periodic maintenance work started in December 2019. After the recording of a work progress of 85% at the level of this complex, an incident occurred on February 21 on one turbine among the fourteen (14) contained in this mega train.
The company had to repair the turbine and replace damaged parts in order to get the turbine back into service as quickly as possible, it was explained. “It was important and not insignificant work in terms of maintenance. It is a real work of renewal which allows us today to have autonomy in terms of activities over a period of ten years ”, indicated Mr. Hakkar.
The first person in charge of SONATRACH then inquired about the progress of the construction works of an LNG jetty and of maritime and port infrastructures at the level of the hydrocarbon port of Skikda.
Work at this site was at a standstill at the start of the sanitary confinement decreed by the authorities to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
“Today, work has resumed with the objective of making up for the delay recorded for nearly three months in order to allow the reception of this project by the end of 2021”, insisted on specifying the CEO of SONATRACH.
Recording an overall progress rate in the works of 23.14%, this project aims to increase the loading and unloading capacities of the various hydrocarbon products at the port of Skikda as well as the reduction of the risk of high stocks. LNG containers.
This new jetty is also expected to allow the loading of LNG carriers with a capacity of 220,000 m3 and tankers with a capacity of 50,000 to 250,000 tonnes as well as an increase in the loading capacity of LPG, a- we added.
This new structure, with a total cost of 52.95 billion DA, should allow the loading and unloading of products transported in containers thanks to a new berth for ship with a storage area of 15 hectares. SONATRACH also inspected the oil complex's monitoring and security installations as well as the quality laboratories.
During this visit, he also attended a fire extinguishing drill carried out by the teams from the oil complex. On this occasion, Mr. Hakkar congratulated all SONATRACH staff through the workers of the Skikda oil complex, for their involvement and their sense of responsibility, especially since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The SONATRACH workers worked day and night sometimes in very difficult sanitary conditions, thus taking up the challenge of bringing this oil complex back into operation. They deserve to be congratulated and honored ”, added the CEO of the national hydrocarbons company at the end of his visit. (APS)
