Somaca issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
A car whose steering wheel turns alone, a passenger who treats his e-mails serenely before arriving at his first meeting of the day while another enjoys a moment of calm in a musical bubble. This is not a futuristic vision, but an experiment of autonomous vehicle in real situation!
For the Renault Group, the mobility of tomorrow will be electric, connected, autonomous and shared. Building on this vision, the Group has set up experiments, including Rouen Normandy Autonomous Lab and Paris-Saclay Autonomous Lab.
Inaugurated in May 2019, the Paris-Saclay Autonomous Lab project offers a service of autonomous, electric and shared cars, on demand, on the Paris-Saclay urban campus.
Several people have tested this offer for a month and share their experience.
The public experimentation of the service of ZOE Cab electric vehicles, autonomous and shared, on demand, took place from October 14 to November 8, 2019 with a hundred people working, studying or living on the campus of Paris-Saclay.
I want more !
While curiosity was naturally the primary motivation of the participants in the experiment, the interviewees testified that they were very impressed to see the steering wheel "turn alone" on their first trip to the autonomous ZOE Cab, while feeling safe.
We really feel safe, we adapt quickly to the system.
During the following trips, it appears that this phenomenon of curiosity subsides to give way to a real moment of relaxation where the users of the service were able to indulge in activities such as listening to the musical moods offered within cars or conversation with other passengers, regardless of the route.
Interviewees all expressed enthusiasm for this type of service, with some expressing their wish to see it extended beyond the Paris-Saclay urban campus.
I believe in it enormously, I believe it beyond experiments on an environment like the Saclay plateau.
