El Massa issued the following announcement on June 13.

Gamal Ould Abbas and Said Barakat gave up their parliamentary immunity voluntarily in a written statement to the National Assembly, in order to enable the judiciary to exercise its constitutional duties, a statement from the council said.

The move came just two days after the council's office, during a meeting chaired by Acting Speaker of the National Assembly Saleh Kogel, held a closed session on Wednesday (19 June) to adjudicate the request of the Minister of Justice, Hafez Seals, Suleiman Brahimi, National Assembly, Gamal Ould Abbas and Said Barakat.
