Three wilayas began counting the ballots after the polling stations were extended in their hours elsewhere.
Illizi, Khenchela and Mila all began counting the votes made in their stations, even after other polling stations were ordered to stay open an extra hour in 45 other wilayas.
The extension was made by Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Spatial Planning, Noureddine Bedoui, who wished for more citizens to be able to make it to the polls and cast their votes. The extension was made in connection to Article 30 of the Organic Law of the Electoral System.
The participation rate was 34.46 percent for the Communal People's Assemblies and 33.26 percent for the Wiliaya People's Assemblies.
Other polling stations stayed open from 7-8 p.m.
