Stating it is a necessary step in order to improve the press, Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia has announced that a censorship authority would be put in place before the end of 2017.
The move will begin with the implementation of better government and state institutions in the area of communication.
Based on the 2012 Media Law, the body of media is the one that has financial independence and is tasked with promotion of pluralism in media.
Additionally, Ouyahia stated that the new authority would allow for media access to information and official documents, even granting a change to the constitutional amendment.
