According to Boualem Djebbar, the president of the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions, bank loans to the Algerian economy on investment have seen an increase of 7 percent in the first six months of this year.
Additionally, banks are asking for refinancing from the Bank of Algeria, which is resulting in a decrease in liquidity for banks, linked to the amount of consumption on loans from 2016. The act of financing has become more and more common in Algeria in the past few years: From 2015 to 2016 a rate of 16 to 18 percent was recorded, while in 2014 the rate was 26 percent growth.
