Since October 2016, there have been more than 100,000 transactions made with the e-payment system in Algeria.
The e-payment system has been showcased through the amount of interbank cards that are now in circulation and the number of users who have taken the steps to set up passwords for making e-payments through the internet.
La Poste, an electronic banking company, is switching 5 million cards to the interbank cards. There are now 12,000 electronic payment terminals, though that number should increase through the coming months.
Right now, the cards are only able to be used for electricity, gas, water and some insurance, but there are discussions in place and hopes that the cards will be able to be used for other payments as well.
