Tunisia is seeking to joining the Economic Community of West African States.
Youssef Chahed, Tunisia's head of government, recently made the announcement, though it will not be until December that a decision will be made.
Tunisia is hoping to join the organization in order to recover from the economic challenges that its has faced since 2011, when Ben Ali's regime fell and the country suffered terrorist attacks that decreased tourism revenue.
Morocco, a prime trading partner for many countries, joined in June.
