ALGIERS – The Sonelgaz Group participated in Algerian Independence Day festivities on July 5. Approximately 40 employees marched in the parade that traveled through the streets of Algiers.
The Group said in a public statement, "Sonelgaz, a corporate citizen, is proud to celebrate the 55th anniversary of independence with all Algerians and pays tribute to our brave martyrs. Long live Algeria!"
French President Charles De Gaulle announced Algeria's independence on July 5, 1962. The announcement also signaled the end of Algeria's war of independence, which began in 1954. The cease fire between France and National Liberation Front (Front de Libération Nationale - FLN) was signed on March 18, 1962.
The Sonelgaz Group consists of 16 subsidiaries, which include The Electricity and Gas Engineering Co. (CEEG), The Management Company of the Transmission Network of Electricity (GRTE), The Société de Gestion de Transport de Gas (GRTG), The Operator Electrical System (OS), The Electricity and Gas Distribution Corporation (SDC), Sharikat Kahraba wa takat moutadjadida (SKTM) and The Electricity Production Co.
